As the smallest members of your bridal party, flower girls are sure to melt wedding guests’ hearts whatever they wear, but many also really enjoy getting dressed up for the special occasion. Happily for everyone involved, there are so many adorable flower girl shoe options out there, from something blue to a super fun multicolored floral sandal, and from elegant velvet mary janes to funky glitter Chuck Taylors.

Beyond what flower girl shoes look like, it’s also super important that they are comfortable enough to support little feet throughout the day, so when searching for the best shoes out there, we made sure to look for features such as a padded insole, elasticated straps, velcro closures, and non-slip soles. To help us on our quest, we spoke to fashion stylists who know a thing or two about kids’ and bridal styling.

This budget ballet flat is ideal for little ones whose feet grow faster than you can keep up with—especially if you opt for the gold or silver options, which they might get less wear out of than a more classic shade. Between these metallics and the blush and white options, these are absolutely perfect for matching to the bridal party. Plus, they have a memory foam insole so that each flower girl can look lovely and feel comfy throughout the ceremony and reception.

For something a little special, fashion stylist Alexandrea Cohen is loving these sweetly detailed mary janes. Available in ivory, white, or dusty pink—all three of which are well in keeping with traditional wedding shades—they feature floral crochet lace all over, plus a row of pearls and satin panels at the front and back of the shoe. We love that the Etsy shop makes them for everyone from newborns to big kids, too.

When a kid gets to be a flower girl, it’s such a beautiful occasion for her to express her personality by wearing a fun, dressy shoe that she might not normally get to. That’s why we’re just a little bit obsessed with this pick from NINA, which is another of Cohen’s recommendations. Available in metallic pink (our fave!), gold, and silver, plus a black patent version, it’s embellished with crystals on the strap, and a crystal bow on the front—like a baby Mach & Mach heel for fashionistas in-the-making. This shoe also features memory foam cushioning for extra comfort. What’s not to love?

L’Amour Chloe Classic Scalloped Patent Mary Jane

L’Amour Chloe Classic Scalloped Patent Mary Jane

L’Amour

Womenswear and kids’ stylist Libby Carradice says L’Amour is one of her absolute go-tos when it comes to flower girl shoes, and it’s not hard to see why she’s a fan. These mary janes are making our hearts burst from the cuteness, thanks to their scalloped edges and baby blue patent finish. Also, we love the clever closure, which is actually velcro for ease, but features a buckle accent for making the little ones feel a bit more grown-up. Swoon.

Best Sparkle

Many little girls like a touch of sparkle, and there’s no better occasion than a wedding to break out the glittery accessories—shoes included, of course. These ballet pumps come in equally wedding-appropriate pink or white glitter, and feature an elasticated strap for support and a ribbon bow for style. The insoles are also padded for all-day comfort, taking little ones from down the aisle to running around the dancefloor with no abandon.

For the sophisticated flower girl, nothing but this ankle-strap ballet flat will do. Made from metallic gold faux leather, this pair boasts a classic silhouette and a bold color that will make any kid feel like the belle of the ball. Despite gold being a statement-making shade, it’s also super easy to pair with any color outfit, whether the bride has picked white, pastels, or even brights for her flower girls to wear.

Dessy Group Flower Girl Shoes

Dessy Group Flower Girl Shoes

Dessy

Dessy Group is an amazing bridal shop, so of course they also cater to flower girls. Available in ivory or black, these stretchy satin flats’ simplicity is what makes them so great. Adorned with just a little ribbon bow for good measure, they will go with basically any dress or outfit under the sun. The slip-on, elasticated style also means each kid will be able to achieve a foot-hugging custom fit that allows her to move freely throughout the wedding celebrations.

Best Velvet

Childrenchic Girls' Classic Velvet Mary Janes

Childrenchic Girls' Classic Velvet Mary Janes

Dillard's

We can’t think of anything more precious than a velvet shoe for a wintertime flower girl. Available in a dusty rose and a burgundy shade that are each as beautiful (and wedding-ready) as the other, these mary janes are as classic and elegant as they come. But despite the sophisticated style, these shoes fasten with velcro straps, so little girls can easily adjust them if they need to. Last but not least, these are fitted with a non-slip rubber outsole, so you don’t have to worry too much about rogue puddles your little one might come across on the day.

Best Lace

Kelly & Katie Lil Layla Flat

If you’re looking not to spend too much on flower girl shoes, these by Kelly & Katie are such an amazing dupe for the Kailee P. lace mary janes, with a similar all-over lace style suitable for toddlers and little kids. These, however, take it a step further with their adorable flower embellishment and slightly shimmery fabric. Between their cute design and their lightly padded footbed, these are a party shoe if there ever was one.

Best Bow-Embellished

Hehainom Toddler Flower Girls Dress Shoes

Few things say “special occasion” like an oversized bow, which is why these shoes are such a wonderful choice for a flower girl. Like many an Amazon pick, these affordable shoes come in a whopping 23 colorways, so they can fit any wedding’s color scheme. We’re particularly loving the red satin and gold sequin options for a bolder look, or the ivory and black patent options for a subtler touch of whimsy.

Best Pearl-Embellished

Kailee P. Harper Pearl-Strap Satin Flower Girl Flats

Anthropologie

When it comes to flower girl shoes, Kailee P. really knows what they’re doing: The brand was founded by two moms named Airin and Tammy, who know exactly what both parents and kids are looking for in a dress shoe. These blush pink flats, embellished with a pearl strap and ribbon bow in the back, evoke ballerina vibes while also being utterly perfect for a white-veil occasion (that’s a Taylor Swift reference, in case you missed it!).

Best for Toddlers

David’s Bridal Girls Crystal Ballet Flats With Ribbon Bow

David’s Bridal Girls Crystal Ballet Flats With Ribbon Bow

David’s Bridal

David’s Bridal is yet another favorite of ours at Brides, for everything from wedding dresses to perfect shapewear—and of course, for flower girl shoes, too. These rhinestone-embellished ballet flats are super sparkly, and feature a charming ribbon bow to top it all off. These are designed specially for toddlers and little kids, and we love that they’re on the more affordable side—since kids that age have a sneaky tendency to grow by a shoe size seemingly overnight, which can definitely add up in terms of shoe shopping!

Best for Tweens

Converse Kids Chuck Taylor All Star Glitter Drip Ox

Converse Kids Chuck Taylor All Star Glitter Drip Ox

Zappos

There’s no rule that says flower girl shoes have to consist strictly of delicate dress shoes. For more relaxed weddings or for kids who feel more comfortable in a sportier look, sparkly Chuck Taylors are super cute, and count Cohen among their biggest fans. These are especially fabulous because they’re comfy, classic, and pair beautifully with a white dress, but the glitter makes them that little bit more special for the big day—but not so special that the flower girls won’t be able to wear them again and again once the wedding is over. That’s what we in the biz call “a win.”

Best Sandals

Nordstrom Kids' Cadence Glitter Flower Sandal

Nordstrom Kids' Cadence Glitter Flower Sandal

For summer weddings—especially those taking place outside—a sandal is just as cute as a flat, and will be much more comfortable and breathable for overheating walkers and toddlers. Between their iridescent ankle strap and multicolored, glittery floral embellishments, we have no doubt that flower girls will fall completely in love with these fun shoes from Nordstrom’s own label. These pair wonderfully with white dresses or with any color that matches their flowers.

Best Low Heel

DB Studio Girls Crisscross Pearl Metallic Low-Heel Sandals

DB Studio Girls Crisscross Pearl Metallic Low-Heel Sandals

David's Bridal

If you’re anything like us, as a kid you dreamed of the day when you’d finally be allowed to wear high heels. While little kids should definitely not be wearing anything higher than this, a low, inch-and-a-half heel like this one (recommended by Cohen) is a cute way to let them play dress-up while still ensuring their safety. And with their ivory shade and crystal-embellished crisscross front, these sandals are more than ready to walk each flower girl down the aisle.

Best Sneakers

Michael Kors Little Girls Jem Olivia Perforated Slip-On Sneakers

Macy's

Comfort is primordial when choosing a flower girl shoe, and while many of the ballet flats and mary janes on our list are designed for comfort, a sneaker like this one can also help ensure little feet stay comfy and supported all day long. While these are probably better suited to a more casual celebration, their perforated design and super fun iridescent upper add a little je ne sais quoi to the overall effect, making them an easy choice for flower girls who are super active.

Size Range: 1-13 | Materials: Polyurethane, Polyester, Thermoplastic Rubber, Jersey, Latex | Colors: Iridescent

Best Espadrilles

J.Crew Girls' Childrenchic Classic Espadrilles

J.Crew

Espadrilles aren’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think of flower girl shoes, but that doesn’t mean they’re not a great choice, especially for pairing with a sundress-style outfit. These ones, which come in cream or pink, are totally lovely for a sunny-day wedding, allowing little feet to breathe while still looking really cute. Carefully crafted in Spain, these are definitely more of an investment, but you can be sure you’re getting a high-quality shoe here, and one that will come in handy throughout the whole summer after the wedding.

What to Look for in Flower Girl Shoes

Color

Typically, a flower girl’s shoes and outfit should tie in with the bridal party’s in some way—even if it’s just a nod. “Look for colors which align with the palette of the wedding, or particular elements within it, for example the flowers, bridesmaid dresses, or the groom's boutonnière,” says Carradice.

Comfort

A flower girl needs to be able to walk down the aisle, plus dance around during the reception, in her shoes (though of course, it’s likely she’ll kick them off at some point during the party). “Comfort is really key when it comes to flower girl shoes,” says Carradice. “Realistically, you can expect them to be running around on the dancefloor and playing for a long period of time, so something really supportive but not overly stiff is ideal.” Look for padded soles like in Kelly & Katie Lil Layla Flat.

Style

As you can see from our picks, there are many styles of flower girl shoes to pick from—at the most basic level, any shoe that comes in little girl’s sizes is fair game. “If you want to have some fun with it, add bows, sparkle, or even a Converse shoe (like Converse Kids Chuck Taylor All Star Glitter Drip Ox)” says Cohen. “If your wedding is more traditional, offer a flat option and an option with a small heel to keep the occasion more formal, but still allowing the flower girl to feel comfortable.” We like DB Studio Girls Crisscross Pearl Metallic Low-Heel Sandals for a low-heel option.

FAQ
  • Do flower girl shoes have to match?

Both experts agree: It’s more important for the flower girls to love the shoes they wear on your wedding day than it is for them to all wear the same thing. “Personally, I don't think shoes have to match,” says Carradice. “I think what's most important is that they suit the flower girl and they fit into the look of the other people in the wedding, but without being too 'matchy.’ The same goes for the bridesmaids—it's great to have a theme, but putting people in clothes and shoes that may not suit them will ultimately make things look worse, even if they all match.”

  • Who picks what the flower girl wears?

Most often, the bride picks the flower girls’ outfits, but not always. “I think it depends on how particular the bride is,” says Carradice. “Often, the bride will choose and the flower girls' outfits will be coordinated with the bridesmaids. It also depends on how formal or relaxed the wedding itself is.” For example, the expert adds, “I styled my daughter, who was a flower girl at her auntie's wedding last summer, when she was 18 months old.”

  • When should I buy the flower girl shoes (so they will be the correct size)?

“Six to eight weeks is the perfect amount of time to purchase the flower girls shoes.” says Cohen. “Kids do not grow that much in 6-8 weeks and you want to make sure you receive items on time before the big day. If needed, order one size up in case and depending on the return policy, you can return what you don't use right before or after the wedding.”

Meanwhile, Carradice notes that “in an ideal world, shoes should be bought at the same time as the outfit so you can be sure they work together, and not risk any last minute panics or nasty surprises if the shoes don't work.”
