Sensitive and family-focused, Cancer is the most nurturing of the signs in the Zodiac. Known for its symbol the Crab, this summer-born sign holds its loved ones and traditions close to his or her heart. When romantic Cancer finds a match they feel secure with, they open up to that major commitment and may get engaged quickly. After all, being married and building their own family is a high priority for the Water sign.

“Of all the zodiac signs, Cancers are some of the most homey and domestic,” shares astrologer Kyle Thomas. “Having a close-knit relationship with their family and social circle is very important to them. That’s why many Cancers will choose to base their wedding plans on being close to their kindred—as well as honoring some of the traditions that have been passed down through their heritage.”

If you’re a Cancer planning your own wedding, there are a few things you should know to curate a stellar ceremony and reception that you’ll look back on fondly for years to come. From fashion choices to the best time of year to say “I do,” we chatted with astrologers to provide insights into how to create a wedding that is written in the stars for this Water sign.

Wedding Planning

When it comes to wedding planning, astrologer Julia Topaz says, “Cancer would take an intimate approach to wedding planning and select a cozy venue, perhaps even a venue that has a sentimental value.” While the sign will have their own dreams for the wedding, they’ll also prioritize what’s important to their inner circle. “Cancers likely put a very big stake in the opinions of their families, too, being swayed by what other people may suggest from previous experiences,” notes Thomas. “These weddings are also likely to be some of the most sentimental of all, as they like to reflect on the past and what has led them to be here now, so expect video and photo montages for sure!”

Wedding Season

Based on the astrological calendar, there are a few times throughout the year during which Cancers are more open to romance and marriage. The Water sign should keep these date ranges in mind when booking their venue for the best wedding experience, shares Thomas. They include Cancer season, spanning from June 21 to July 22, Scorpio season, which ranges from October 23 to November 21, and Capricorn season, which falls between December 22 and January 19. He adds that a Cancer who wants to host a spring wedding should get married near a full moon in Scorpio, which takes place each year between April 20 to May 20.

Wedding Venue

Family-focused Cancer is the zodiac sign most likely to hold a wedding in their hometown. They might even be inclined to host their celebration at their childhood home if the space can fit their guest list. “Cancers will likely choose venues that make them feel ‘at home.’ This may even be at similar venues their lineage has had special memories or previous ceremonies at,” says Thomas. If a Cancer chooses to do a destination wedding, they may choose a location that their family had experiences vacationing in over the years.

Being at ease is key for a Cancer, so they will want their wedding design to be welcoming and will focus on creating a space where their closest friends and family members are eager to come together. Astrologer Lisa Stardust says, “A wedding color palette of warm neutrals and soft colors, such as pale gray and butter yellow, will satisfy their need for comfort.” The sign will also likely want to curate lounge areas for guests to gather in a relaxed environment. A fire pit for conversation and warmth will definitely excite a Cancer. “They’ll want the space to feel cozy,” adds Thomas.

Wedding Food and Drink

Cancer will plan to serve guests plenty of their favorite bites throughout their wedding day. Passed hors d’oeuvres will be the perfect opportunity for the Crab to offer a variety of their go-to culinary treats. “The happy hour will be the greatest part of the event, as they’ll be able to serve all their favorite foods,” says Stardust. For a signature cocktail, the astrologer suggests that “Mint Julep is a refreshing summer drink that will send Cancer and their guests over the moon.” The Water sign might also ask a loved one to serve up a special family recipe for the event.

Wedding Cake

There’s no way around it: The traditional Water sign will absolutely serve cake on his or her big day and will love the romance of a cake-cutting moment with their new spouse. As for the flavor and design, you can trust that the confection will be extra sweet. “Cancer is the hopeless romantic, so a Valentine's Day-inspired cake seems fitting,” shares Stardust. “They should go for reds, pinks, and whites decorated with hearts to get the lovey-dovey feelings going.”

The Crab will absolutely adhere to the “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” tradition on their big day. They would love to incorporate family heirlooms into their look and accessorize with meaningful items from their closest crew. A groom might wear cufflinks or a watch passed down from a father, and a bride might even wear a version of their mother or grandmother’s wedding dress for the day.

If they are choosing a new style, “Cancer would opt for a romantic, dreamy dress that complements her sensitive, nurturing personality,” says Stardust. “The dress is likely to be somewhat conservative but with very feminine curves.” Topaz adds, “Cancers will wear a sweetheart dress because they want to bare their shoulders for a romantic look that reveals their innermost sentiments on their wedding day. As for a Cancer groom, he will likely choose something bold and unique. “The Cancer groom will opt for a bright colored shirt and simple tie to accentuate their feelings,” Topaz explains.

Honeymoon Destination

After their final send off, a newlywed Cancer will want to escape to a far away escape with their spouse. “Fiji is an ideal spot for the crab to rest during their honeymoon, allowing them to be near the salted water and sun,” says Stardust. “The beach offers up more of a low-key vibe, for the crab who likes to lay low. A hideaway hotel will offer sophisticated restaurants and elegant bars for the upscale Cancer.”
