Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck shocked the world when they rekindled their romance in July of 2021—almost 20 years after they first started dating. Then, on April 8, 2022, the Deep Water star popped the question yet again, and this time, Affleck wanted the multi-hyphenate to know it was going to last. On November 28, 2022, during an interview with Apple Music, the “On the Floor” singer revealed the words her husband had inscribed on her green emerald-cut 8.5-carat diamond engagement ring: “Not. Going. Anywhere.” “That’s how he would sign his emails when we started talking again,” she explains. “Like, ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.’”

When the Oscar winner first proposed in 2002, he also had a message engraved on the sparkler. Lopez shares that Affleck had the word “sing” inscribed on the pink diamond ring. Two years later, however, the duo decided to call off the wedding and go their separate ways. In the interview, Lopez explains that they split partially due to the strain the media attention put on their relationship.

The Marry Me actress says she didn’t think she would survive the heartache. “It was so painful after we broke up,” she shares. “Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, it was the biggest heartbreak of my life, and I honestly felt like I was going to die. It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn’t get it right.” Lopez says she dedicated herself to working more in order to distract herself from the loss.

After rekindling their flame in 2021, the duo went on to tie the knot, not once but twice. They made a commitment to one another on July 17, 2022, and again on August 20, 2022. The Second Act actress reveals in the interview that the reunion confirms that “true love does exist, and some things do last forever, and that’s real. Now, 20 yers later, it does have a happy ending.”

During the interview, Lopez also discusses her upcoming album, This Is Me…Now, which is inspired by her relationship with the Good Will Hunting actor. The album includes songs that nod to her husband, such as “Dear Ben pt. II” and “Midnight Trip to Vegas.” The performer reveals that Affleck has already given the album his stamp of approval. “He loves the album,” she shares. “He loves that music. He knows all of the words. He also was with me while I was creating it. He’s my biggest fan, which is awesome.”

The singer, actress, and dancer released This Is Me…Then 20 years beforehand, which she also dedicated to Affleck. “That album, This Is Me…Then, really captured a time where I fell in love with the love of my life,” the star says. “And I just, it’s all right there on the record. Every single song we wrote, me writing ‘Dear Ben,’ it was such a special moment in time to have captured.” Lopez is planning on releasing This Is Me…Now in 2023.
