Kate Hudson is currently engaged to Danny Fujikawa, but before her relationship with the musician, she was married to Chris Robinson for seven years. Hudson first tied the knot with the lead singer of the Black Crowes on December 31, 2000, in Aspen, Colorado, and she paired her wedding dress with a Vera Wang couture fur coat to brave the cold. Over two decades later, in September 2022, Chris Damone, a storage unit auction hunter and buyer, found Hudson’s outerwear piece in a storage unit in New York City, People reports. Now, the Something Borrowed actress has finally been reunited with the long-lost item, a hand-sewn piece with a shawl collar, cream fur, and a train.

A year ago, Chris was cleaning out one of the units he recently purchased at the time when he stumbled upon the jacket. Chris spotted “Kate Hudson” written on the dry cleaners tag, but he didn’t think much of the label at first. According to the outlet, Chris assumed the jacket belonged to another person who had the same name as the actress. The tag also contained the owner’s address, which piqued his curiosity, so he decided to do some research. “I typed it into Google, and it popped up that it’s the building Kate Hudson used to own in Manhattan,” Chris recalled. “I started looking up Kate Hudson and her wedding in 2000, and I found one picture of her wearing the jacket.”

After Chris put two and two together, he contacted his cousin Lucille Damone, a vintage clothing seller and the owner of Galipette Vintage in Hudson Valley, New York. “He just texted me a picture and was like, ‘Look what I found,’” Lucille recounted. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, are you serious?’ I couldn’t believe it.” Lucille reached out to her seamstress, who confirmed that the fur is real. Immediately after learning about her cousin’s discovery, Lucille expressed her interest in reselling the item. “The history of garments is just so important to me,” she explained. “If I have a story attached to a garment, I love to tell it to people because it makes it so much more special to have history of where it came from and who wore it.”

Before adding the coat to the sale rack, however, Chris and Lucille wanted to get permission from Hudson herself. Chris had some connections in Los Angeles, which allowed him to get a hold of the actress, People reports. The thrift store owner and her cousin told the outlet that Hudson had actually been searching for her coat for the past 20 years. “We reached out to her twice, and this time worked out,” Lucille detailed. “I’m so happy. My heart is so full to be able to return the coat to its rightful owner." Chris shared a similar sentiment. “We are just so happy to get it back to its rightful owner after almost 20 years,” Chris gushed. “It would have been such a shame to lose something like that.”

Although Hudson threw her first wedding more than two decades ago on New Years’ Eve, the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star shared on September 28, 2022, that she doesn’t have a date locked down for her upcoming wedding to Fujikawa, with whom she shares daughter Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa. “We have no idea,” she said about her plans. “We can’t wait, but no, not yet. It’s coming, but not yet.”

Hudson and her fiancé first got engaged on September 13, 2021. A month later, the Fabletics owner explained that she hadn’t made any decisions for her big day at the time, but instead, she was envisioning the end result. “I’m pre-planning the planning—just kind of thinking of what we want to do, and then, I’m going back and forth between like, ‘What is this really going to look like?’” she revealed. “Obviously, we’re so excited, but the idea of planning a wedding is a lot. It’s a lot. I made a whole movie about it.”
