Scottie Falkenhagen and Tyler Conklin grew up down the street from each other and went to school together from kindergarten on—but it wasn't a pre-K love match. “Although I’ve known Tyler for most of my life, we didn’t make it official until July 17, 2018,” Scottie says. But just four years later, they were engaged.
Tyler, a tight end for the New York Jets, went all out in the romance department for his July 2022 proposal. “He told me to cancel all plans; he was taking me out for our anniversary,” Scottie remembers. “He first took me on a private shopping spree at Saks Fifth Avenue, and I got to pick out whatever I wanted, including an outfit for the fancy dinner we were going to that night. After shopping, we went to Ocean Prime, which is where we had our first date, and he had everything preordered for us.” She continues: “After dinner, as we pull up to our driveway, I see this big light tunnel. As we walk through the tunnel he's telling me all the things he loves about me. At the end of the walkway of candles was a gorgeous setup of blankets, pillows, and flowers. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him.” Of course, he had a photographer and videographer on hand to capture the moment. “[It was] one of the most romantic moments of my life," says the bride.
Scottie’s wedding vision was equally as romantic—“a classic all-white flower wedding,” she says—but she envisioned it somewhere beachy, far from their Michigan home. The couple landed on Cabo San Lucas, and identified a local planner there to bring their big day to life. “I chose my wedding planners, Laura Armendariz and Candace Hernandez at Fawn Events, because they have tons of experience doing Cabo weddings and already had all of the contacts and connections,” Scottie says. “We got married in less than a year and really didn’t dive into the actual planning process until four months before the wedding. The planners presented me with their designs and gave me options to choose from and handled it all from there.” A few must-haves? A beach-chic venue, breathtaking views, and good cuisine. The Cape, a Thompson Hotel checked all the boxes.
“We hosted everyone in Cabo for four total days at The Cape,” Scottie shares—and they said "I do" on a weekday. “On Monday we kicked off the week with a welcome cocktail hour; on Tuesday we hung out by the pool all day before the wedding party and our immediate families went to our rehearsal dinner. Our wedding was on Wednesday, and the last full day of our wedding trip, Thursday, was a boat day—which might have been my favorite!”

With Cabo as backdrop, it was only fitting that Scottie asked for a glowy, sun-kissed makeup look. “I went for more of a natural look, yet still enhancing my features,” she says. As for her hair? “I love the half-up, half-down look, and being in Cabo with the humidity, it kept my hair from getting all messed up throughout the night."
“I went to Kleinfeld in New York, which was always one of my dreams,” Scottie shares of her wedding dress shopping experience. “My stylist knew exactly which designer to pull for me when I described what I wanted.” Her designer of choice? Pnina Tornai. "My dress was covered with 3D flowers, pearls, and sparkles; my favorite part was the see-through corset back with a mesh bow. I felt sexy and confident as soon as I tried it on.”
The groom made a major fashion statement, too, in a blue and green floral suit from Michigan clothier Cicchini.
Scottie and Tyler decided on a first look at the recommendation of their planners; it made for a smoother day-of timeline. “Tyler was tearing up before he even got to see me, and seeing the emotion in his face at that moment made it extra special,” Scottie recalls. “Having these few minutes alone on the busy day meant everything to us.”
Given the beach location, the pair opted for a less formal wedding party vibe. Bridesmaids wore midi slip dresses from BHLDN and groomsmen played off Tyler’s look with dark green pants and Champagne-hued shirts that they left untucked.
“Our altar was something out of a dream,” Scottie says. “When Candace and Laura first presented me with their idea of making our backdrop a wood wall with flowers lining the top, I wasn't sure how I felt because I'd never seen anything like it. But their vision was brought to life and when I first saw it, I started to cry. I just couldn't believe this was my wedding.” Plus, it was eco-friendly—a major plus for the couple. “Our florist sourced the highest quality sustainable flowers and did 100-percent foam-free arrangements to give back to the planet.”
“We really wanted our wedding ceremony to reflect our personalities, so we opted for an untraditional ceremony, having one of our good friends, Sean Koski, marry us and write his own speech,” Scottie says. “We also did a ‘union shot’ during our ceremony which is very us. We like to party.”
The couple wrote their own vows—something Scottie convinced Tyler to do on one condition. “I made him compromise between either getting dance lessons or writing our own vows and he chose the vows, surprisingly,” she says with a laugh. "He really put his heart into them and I think it made our wedding so special that everyone got to hear us confess our love and devotion to each other.” They sealed the deal, literally, with a recessional to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”
Their 58 guests threw back shots—disguised as escort cards, that is—on the way into cocktail hour, where they sipped signature drinks made with mezcal, tequila, citrus, and hibiscus. High-end hors d’oeuvres included spicy salmon, New York strip nigiri, and white fish tostadas.
On one side you could see the ocean and Cabo Arch and on the other you're looking over mountains. It was truly a dream.
“Our reception was on the rooftop at The Cape—on one side you could see the ocean and Cabo Arch while on the other side you're looking over mountains,” Scottie describes. “Laura and Candace transformed [the space with] a custom bar backdrop, beautiful white flowers everywhere, canopies above the tables that held clouds of baby’s breath, and artisan light fixtures that really elevated the space.” Tables overflowed with fluffy florals, textured linens, and taper candles. “It was truly a dream.”
On the menu for dinner? Fire-torched sashimi, roasted local catch, Prime New York steak with almond salsa, and warm chocolate sponge cake with coffee mezcal ice cream. (Late-night, guests refueled at a custom quesadilla station.)
The newlyweds danced with each other and their parents before everyone joined them on the dance floor—and what a dance floor it was. “Tyler and his groomsmen had all the men at our wedding take their shirts off, so by the end of the night all the guys, including dads and uncles, were shirtless and waving them around in the air,” Scottie remembers with a laugh. “I will never forget that!”
The couple put their Greek honeymoon on hold—“with Tyler’s football schedule, we didn’t have a lot of time to travel this year!” Scottie says—but relished every moment of their destination wedding vacation. “Having all of our closest family and friends in Cabo for a week together was one of the best memories made yet,” Scottie says. “It was a trip of a lifetime.”
