What we know about Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship is usually gleaned from interviews, public sightings, and television shows, but it’s not every day that the average person gets up-close access to their real-life romance. However, a recent job opening at The Household of the Prince and Princess of Wales could give you an inside look into William and Kate’s marriage. On January 4, 2023, the household shared a job posting on LinkedIn for a visits and events manager, who will personally work with the prince and princess.
According to the LinkedIn job posting, the main duties consist of “assisting in the development of their royal highnesses’ official programs and working creatively with the team to shape, plan, and implement a wide variety of visits, ranging from formal state occasions to more imaginative engagements based around their royal highnesses’ thematic areas.”
The visits and events manager will work closely with the visits and events team, private secretary team, and communications team to develop these programs, schedule the engagements, and coordinate William and Kate’s calendar, per the job posting. The job also includes managing, leading, conceptualizing, and delivering overseas visits for the prince and princess, covering internal and external processes from start to finish. According to the LinkedIn post, this person will act as the primary point of contact for anyone involved in the planning and execution processes. In addition to the act of orchestrating these engagements, the hired applicant will write briefs for the staff’s senior members.
The job posting also lists a long set of criteria that the candidate needs to exemplify to be considered for the job. Some of these qualifications include prior experience working on projects, strong communication and organizational skills, a high attention to detail, an interest in the royals’ work, and the ability to remain confidential. The application also mentions that this person will need to travel within the United Kingdom and have a drivers’ license.
Part of William and Kate’s responsibilities as working members of the royal family is to participate in royal engagements, whether it’s taking diplomatic trips or hosting heads of state. According to the New York Post, William and Kate clocked in 172 and 123 engagements respectively in 2023. Since the couple has been prioritizing raising their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, they scaled back on their public engagements this past year.
