Prince William and Kate Middleton Are “Extremely Happy” With This Part of Their Home Life

The Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly love their current home, which means they won't be taking up residence at Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge.

Despite all of the rumors, it appears that Prince William and Kate Middleton won’t be moving from their home at Adelaide Cottage any time soon. Insiders recently revealed that King Charles III wants the prince and princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to move into Prince Andrew’s 30-room mansion, Royal Lodge at Windsor Castle, which is much larger than their four-bedroom cottage. However, a source close to William and Kate told Page Six on June 20, 2023, that the couple and their children are “extremely happy” at their current home.

Not only are the prince and princess pleased with their current living situation, but also, moving the couple and their kids to Royal Lodge would be an expensive endeavor for King Charles. According to Page Six, the mansion lies outside of the security perimeter of Windsor Castle, so it has a separate security system that Charles is responsible for paying. However, if William and Kate do move into Andrew’s home, taxpayers would have to foot the bill, the outlet explains.

Plus, Andrew doesn’t seem to be willing to leave his house. The prince has lived at Royal Lodge since 2003, and he and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, have a 75-year lease on the property. However, Andrew lost his title as a working royal after paying a multimillion-dollar settlement to Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre in March 2022 as part of her sexual assault claim against the prince, Page Six notes. The outlet confirms that while Charles is still paying his brother’s personal security, Andrew is covering the costs of the house work that will soon be done on his roof during the summer of 2023. The publication reports that Andrew won’t be moving out while the mansion is under construction due to fears about getting evicted. “Charles is not chucking Andrew out, but Andrew will have to find the money to look after the property himself, and where is that coming from?” one source posed.

William and Kate first moved from their Kensington Palace apartment to Adelaide Cottage in September 2022. A source previously told OK! that the couple was interested in a space larger than their four-bedroom home for their children, but Royal Lodge wasn’t their preference. “The prince and princess of Wales desperately want a larger property for their family in the Windsor area, and discussions were originally forced on putting them in there,” the insider said. “However, Andrew was having none of it and is adamant that he will see out the end of his lease at Royal Lodge.”

In March 2023, The Independent reported that Charles was giving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Frogmore Cottage—a 10-bedroom house in Home Park, Windsor, which was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II—to Prince Andrew. A source confirmed to Page Six that the eviction process began in January 2023, just one day after Harry’s memoir, Spare, was released. “This eviction surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the U.K.,” a source told The Sun. Even though Harry and Meghan relocated to California in 2020, they still owned the United Kingdom property. “It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment,” a friend of the couple shared with Yahoo News. “It’s like [they] want to cut them out of the picture for good.” According to The Sun, Andrew was still adamant about staying at Royal Lodge.
