The glitter and glamor of the celebrity lifestyle may seem enviable, but not every star gets to enjoy the perks of being in the limelight right away. In People's most recent issue, actor and comedian Tiffany Haddish admitted that it was tough for her to make ends meet at the beginning of her career, which meant she had to find creative ways to take care of herself. At one point, Haddish says, she was living out of her car and regularly crashed weddings to score free meals.

As Haddish prepares for season two of The Afterparty (which airs on Apple TV+)—the plot of which centers around a wedding—she's been reflecting on past celebration that she's attended. “I’ve crashed weddings before, given a speech, and didn’t know anybody there,” Haddish told People. “That’s when I was homeless and hungry.” The comedian, 43, went on to explain that before she made it big in the show business industry, weddings were a source of free food and meals during a time when it was hard for her to get by.

What's more, she even had a go-to venue she preferred for crashing weddings: She was a regular at a hotel in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles where there were couples regularly hosted their special days. And while most wedding crashers do their best to blend in, Haddish didn't quite get that memo. “I would have two or three drinks, and then I would grab the microphone and be like, ‘I just want to say that you are the most beautiful couple,’” she told People. “Everybody would be looking at me like, ‘Who is this Black girl at our wedding?’”

After years of hard work, auditions, and determination, Haddish landed her breakout role in the 2017 hit movie Girls Trip—which placed her on The New Yorker's list of the best film performances in the 21st century—and success has since come quickly to the star in the form of both movies and television shows. She's starred in hits such as Night School, Like a Boss, Tuca & Bertie, and The Last O.G.

Haddish will soon play a medium in the upcoming eerie comedy Haunted Mansion and is returning to season two of The Afterparty as ex-detective Danner, investigating the death of a groom on his wedding night. Off-screen, People reports that Haddish is close with her Afterparty castmates, who include John Cho, Ken Jeong, Poppy Liu, Elizabeth Perkins, Jack Whitehall, and Zach Woods. “With Elizabeth, we’re always texting each other with crazy stuff,” she says of Perkins.

A slightly different type of wedding drama than she experienced in the past, we're excited to see what the actor has in store for the Afterparty's newest season, which airs on Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
