Carrie and Michael met at work—and actually weren’t each other's biggest fans at first. But between 2014 and 2016, the two grew closer and soon, their relationship turned romantic. Towards the end of 2016, Michael proposed to Carrie, and the two had a courthouse wedding the following year, knowing they'd have a bigger event in the future. That celebration, complete with 140 guests, came to life on June 5, 2022. They had the words “classic” and “timeless” in mind, which is why they chose The Estate in Atlanta, Georgia, to host their outdoor ceremony and indoor dinner reception. “Having the full property to ourselves really was perfect,” Carrie says.
Carrie and Michael worked with LesLo Events to plan a wedding with tons of baby’s breath, candles, and wood elements; they chose a neutral color palette with ivory as the foundation. “The most important thing when selecting vendors for us was the ability to really bring our vision to life,” Carrie says. “We waited four years to plan the wedding of our dreams and truly invested in the team we brought on.”
Read on to see how this couple personalized the overarching details of their day, from a touching ceremony that told their love story to the custom wraps at their cigar bar. You won’t want to miss any of the photos from Andre Brown Photography.
Carrie and Michael worked with The Taylored Design Co. to customize their invitation suite, which featured embossed fonts in a neutral color palette.
On the wedding day, Carrie got ready with her bridesmaids. She wore a white satin pajama set with feather details on the ankles and wrists. Her ladies donned matching sets in champagne, but with shorts instead of pants.
Carrie wore an ivory gown with a sweetheart neckline, ruched bodice, ball gown skirt, slit, and cathedral train. “I can’t describe how I knew—I just knew,” Carrie says. “It was simple but sexy!” She accessorized with earrings and a bracelet from Ai & Eva Bridal Jewelry and Rene Caovilla shoes. “I’ve always wanted the classic Hollywood waves for hair, so of course that’s the style I decided on,” she says. Carrie also wore Clive Christian Original Collection No.1, a perfume Michael gifted her on the wedding day. She held a classic all white rose bouquet.
Carrie’s bridesmaids wore neutral satin dresses from Bella Bridesmaids in Atlanta. “I let each bridesmaid choose a style that they felt most comfortable in for the big day,” Carrie says. They held bouquets of baby’s breath.
Michael worked with The BeSpoke Room to design a custom light brown summer suit with a light, airy fabric for their outdoor ceremony. Groomsmen wore classic black tuxes, but swapped the dress shoes for black Jordans.
The couple’s outdoor ceremony was centered around a 90-foot-long white aisle, which was lined with clusters of baby’s breath on gold pillar displays and in small white vases. At the altar, the couple was framed by an asymmetrical broken arch made entirely of baby’s breath.
Once guests were seated for the ceremony, the minister, Michael, and the wedding party walked down the aisle to “Heaven” and “Love Brings Change” by Jamie Fox. Carrie made her entrance accompanied by her oldest son, Peyton, as a live violinist played Etta James’ “At Last.” The duo decided against a first look to take full advantage of the walk down the aisle—so this was the first time Michael saw Carrie that day.
The couple worked with Minister Melinda to customize the ceremony script to tell the story of their love. They wrote their own vows and exchanged them in front of their closest loved ones. They celebrated back down the aisle as husband and wife along with their wedding party to John Legend’s “Stay With You.”
Stylish lounge areas with comfortable furniture were set up inside the reception space, where guests enjoyed an open bar along with appetizers like pistachio lamb chops, miniature crab cakes, and pickled peach bruschetta. For entertainment, a professional violinist, Demola, played the couple’s favorite R&B songs.
Both round and farm tables filled the reception space, where the ceremony aisle arrangements were repurposed as high and low centerpieces. The room was filled with candles, too. “My vision was classic and timeless,” Carrie says. “Candle overload was also on my list, because I love candlelight.” The place settings included white plates, gold flatware, white linen napkins, and handwritten place cards.
Instead of a wedding cake, Carrie and Michael offered a dessert bar for their guests. They served peach cobbler, very berry shortcake, red velvet cupcakes, chocolate chip cannolis, and s’mores pies.
For the reception, Carrie changed into a second dress from Bella Bianca Bridal Couture. “I wanted a more fun and sleek style gown as well so I incorporated that style into my second gown,” she says. At the end of the evening, guests lined up outside for a sparkler send-off for the newlyweds.
